Virgin No More

Or, I should say, I am more experienced than previously. I did do a signing at the New Jersey Conference last fall (and sold 14 books!), but the people who attended that actually wanted to buy romances, and weren’t just people out on their lunch hour hoping they could pick up the latest Not-Quite-True memoir before they headed back to the office with their limp salad and chicken noodle soup.

This was quite different from New Jersey.

Author Eloisa James and I went to the Waldenbooks in Rockefeller Center and sat in nice comfy chairs to sign books. Or, actually, one of us would stand up at the front of the store and tell the incoming customers we were there to sign romances, and wouldn’t they make a fabulous Valentine’s Day gift? Nobody bought it. Or our books. But we did have a nice steady stream of RWA-NY* chapter members, my Extremely Supportive Husband, his Equally Supportive Friends, and people who knew me or Eloisa. So, thanks, everyone!

A few unknowns bought our books, too, which was very, very nice.
It was fun. It was awkward. It was an experience the most introverted writer should have (and I don’t think I’m the MOST introverted).

And the husband and I agreed I’d attend the New England Conference in April, so I’m off to register for that. Yahoo!
Oh, and last night I came up with the title for my historical, which I think will move me past the faux writer’s block I’ve got. Double yahoo!
So, all in all, YAY!

More later–I’m posting at the Risky Regencies tomorrow, not that I’ve even got a clue what I’m going to post about. There are some drawbacks to being a pantser.

Megan
*A double-extra thanks to Elizabeth K. Mahon, aka The Lady Novelist, for arranging the signing.

I’m glad you had a good day out and about in the world of the writer! Did you get to meet Jay?

Also, good news about the title for your book. Maybe you should do some laundry – I find the weirdest solutions to things when I am doing menial labour.

Oh, the agony of a booksigning! I think I might want to crawl under the table and hide. You’ve got courage, girl. Like the pics too.

Aww it looks like fun! I wish I could have come by – I was stuck in the office on lunch duty, Cindy :( I have a book for Megan though so we have to actually get together at some point :) One of these days…

I’m glad it didn’t turn out as you feared it might.

Thanks, guys! It was fun–and while I didn’t sell a ton of books, my agent came, my husband came and said I should go to the New England Conference, and I did it without throwing up. All good things.
I was bummed not to meet Jay, though.

Greetings Megan, I realize I have been terribly remiss in not writing you sooner. It was great to see you last Thursday at Waldenbooks! You did a great job of it! I am glad to hear it was a good experience for you! It was a pleaseure to see you again. I had gotten your book signed in New Jersey but was glad to spend a few minutes chatting with you! Good luck with your latest! I look forward to it and seeing more of you at conferences and signings! Ciao, Santa
