Sharpe as a Tack

by Megan Frampton on July 23, 2006

The Super-Busy Spouse is still living up to his name, but we have found time to watch three of the ridiculous amount of Sharpes (Bernard Cornwell‘s awesome series filmed by the BBC) we’ve DVRed from BBC America. The Spouse is enjoying it as much as I am–and what’s not to enjoy? A determined, charismatic, ruthless man kicking butt and taking names. While looking like Sean Bean. Dreamy.

Many, many years ago, I used to psych myself up for big, scary events (job interviews, tests, etc.) by watching Perry Mason. Weird, I know, but I thought Perry Mason was a no-nonsense, self-assured, confident kind of guy, and I felt like I could channel some of that for myself. Now I think I’ll just watch Sharpe kick some ass.

I watched Fallen Angels yesterday also (can you tell the son is away?), which features Takeshi Kaneshiro. The movie is kinda meh, although it is beautifully filmed, but Kaneshiro is awesome in his role. I’ve heard he refuses to work in American films, even though he speaks English. Too bad. He is so good, and so stunningly good-looking, I would like to see him become a film star over here.

Tomorrow I’ll be preparing to go to Atlanta: dropping off the final revision to my agent, doing laundry, picking up business cards, making the list of what to pack. I’m really excited to be in actual proximity to smart women who read and write what I do. That is probably the best thing about Romance Writers’ Conferences: The knowledge that what you do, and love, is okay, and others do and love what you do. I don’t get a lot of that–okay, ANY of that–in my day-to-day life.

If you are in Atlanta, come and say hi at the Literacy Signing, which is Wednesday afternoon.

Thanks for stopping by,

Megan
