Uncontrollable Urge

For some reason, I really want to play Trivial Pursuit, any kind, not just the Book Lovers’ Trivial Pursuit, which I play with the Picky Vegetarian and now with Shoulder Guy (Goedi, for those of you keeping track at home).

But the one flaw, as I see it, here in Minnesota with my relatives is that there is a decided anti-intellectual bent, so I don’t even dare to suggest we play a game that requires knowledge of things. First off, my uncle doesn’t have that kind of knowledge; dyslexic, he focused on dealing with his disability, not in knowing all kinds of trivia that doesn’t mean anything in the real world. And who can blame him?

My aunt reads a lot, but has already accused me–quite a few times–of being an intellectual snob. It could be she is right, although I think she might just be protesting too much, and that she’s biased against people who may know things she doesn’t.

So I will keep my wants to myself.

I have never played Trivial Pursuit. Terrible huh? I suspect I’d horrible at it unless it’s the tv/pop 80’s version, but who knows maybe I’d surprise myself.

Megan, At the very large risk of sounding like a snob, I’m telling you that living inland in our United States is a verrrry different experience. Don still maintains that our move to Colorado from L.A. is like being in the witness protection program. I’ve taken to cultivating relationships with a couple of my older neices and nephews who are interested in things other than what “everybody” does in town. But, man. It ain’t easy. On the other hand, my time in the Mile High City has given me a more balanced perspective (I think) on why America seems to have such an anti-intellectual bias. In some instances, I can understand where they get insulted or aggravated. But other times, not so much. I mean, is it really being snooty because you know stuff?? So I’m thinking maybe you could just play trival pursuit. By yourself. In your room-:) Enjoy!

Now guys, wouldn’t it be cool if we could play a virtual Trivial Pursuit? And thanks, Arlene, for adding your perspective. I can’t imagine what it would be like to move from some place like LA to Colorado. I guess I would rely even more heavily on my internet friends.
