Many movies this weekend: The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, which I liked, but the heroine’s hair was both hideous and complicated. The Super-Smart Lawyer and I had wine and ground lamb pizza. Much wine. Toby Stephens is hawt. We agreed a dance party at our house is in order. Apropos of nothing, just that we both like dancing (and did I mention the wine?!?)
Then on Saturday, the Spouse and I watched Volver, starring Penelope Cruz, who tops the Spouse’s list, now she’s gotten a little older and is packing on a little weight. It was good, did not veer into magic realism as I’d feared. We drank Spanish wine to honor the country of origin.
And on Sunday, in a rare outdoor-Frampton sighting, I saw Burn After Reading AT A MOVIE THEATRE with the Greco-Sicilian Doctor. She liked it more than I did, which is good, ’cause we were celebrating her birthday.
Yeah, yawn. I’m dull. But well-viewed.

I watched all 10 episodes of Season 6 of MI-5/Spooks. You will plotz when you watch it. It is so good.
I do believe EKM is braaaagging. She must know that you cannot see them…until she passes over those DVDs. Yeah, SO good.
Re Toby Stephens. I just can’t use the word “hot” for him. “Adorable” and “seems more accessible than your average British leading cut o’ meat” but *sexy*? Not to me. His Mr. Rochester was absolutely sexIER than any Rochester I have ever seen…but Mr. Rochester is supposed to be an ugly bastard to begin with.

What does it say about me that I’ve always found Mr. Rochester unbearably sexy? Even when I first started reading (and re-reading) the book? Like, ohmigod, where is my Mr. Rochester?
Guess that explains a lot about my self-absorbed, sharp-witted, aware of his own foibles husband. Hi, honey!
Megan, I’m with you. I’ve always preferred Mr. Rochester to Heathcliff who turns into a complete bastard when he returns. From Orson Welles through Timothy Dalton (who has played both Heathcliff and Rochester), Ciaran Hinds and now Toby Stephens, Rochester rocks my world. I even like him in the Jean Rhys novel but that maybe because Nathaniel Parker played him in the movie. I even didn’t mind William Hurt in the movie with Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Really I haven’t spent a lot of time thinking about this, I swear it.
By the way, I’ve seen Toby Stephens on stage, and he’s way hot in real life.
Oh, I love Tenant of Wildfell Hall! And I totally agree about Toby Stephens in this role.
