Oh, The Agony!

So I am trying to get off my dependence on Q-Tips. I have been using them–in my ears, where they shouldn’t go–for over 20 years. They get so itchy! But the NPR-Listening Spouse heard a report about how Q-Tips are bad because they remove all the helpful stuff and leeave the ear canal dry, which makes them itchy. Ergo, I have been stoking my own itchy ears for years. And, of course, there are all those other dangers of Q-Tippiness.

But man, is it hard to stop doing. I think it’d be easier for me to give up my nightly beer than this. I am on Day Three. I hope to make it to four.

This is terrible news, since I, too have a sad, sad addiction to Q Tips. Ugh.

I heard the same piece on NPR. It was very convincing. The had heard many times, since I was a child, not to use Q-tips in the ear canal. This was the first time I have heard the dryness and itching concern, however.

It seems to me, that NPR has pushed Megan to her Q-tipping point on ears and Q-tips. Ha Ha.

Even if you wait 20 minutes before swimming, after eating, it is dangerous to eat Q-tips.

I just used Q-tips again last night, after I showered. Darn that addiction!

    I have a Q-Tip addiction too. But here’s what I do (’cause my doctor said I could)…

I still use them every night before bedtime and occasionally when my ears itch. BUT…2-3 times a week, instead of a dry one I use one that has been lightly coated in Vaseline. Moisturized ear canal, no itchies, and I still get the satisfaction of using a Q-Tip!

JenB, I am going to try your doc’s advice! Thanks for the tip (no pun intended).
