Stupid Computer(s)
I need techie help. Here goes:
My son has a newly-bought Dell PC running Vista (I know, Myretta!) with a wireless connection. Our Mac has an Airport Extreme through which we connect to the internet. Never a problem, and we have an Airport Express through which we send iTunes through our stereo system.
Sometimes-maybe a third of the time–the PC can get online and connect to the internet through the wireless. Most times not.
I’ve switched from WPA2 to WEP and back again, entered the password multiple times, restored, reconfigured, and still–usually we can’t get online. Sometimes when I reboot the PC it snags onto the wireless, and things are okay, but if it’s been awhile, it usually won’t happen.
Anyone have any techie thoughts to help? I am going mad.
Thanks; if the answer is way too long, or you just wanna reply directly, email me at megan @meganframpton.com.

You’re just gonna have to plug that sucker in. Welcome to the world of PC!

Although it’s directed at UK users, this looks like it has some good information: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/2008.html You might also want to check Rhys’s firewall settings. Does your Airport think Rhys’s PC is hostile? Is it?

I know this is silly. But did you call Dell and talk with them? I have a Dell and that is what we do with a problem. Mine seems to always pick up my wireless connection unless the cable is out. Now we don’t have any Macs in the house. I don’t know if it makes a difference. Have them talk to you on the phone and talk you through what to do. Reading is not fun. Maybe they can do something remotely.
