Happy Birthday, Dad.
Today is my dad’s birthday. Before he died, he’d spend his birthday–or as close to it as possible, given our schedules–here with us in Brooklyn. I’d make him something delicious, he’d have at least two helpings, and we’d talk.

Instead of the rain, which was promised, today is lovely and bright. I headed to the library, since my dad and I definitely shared a love of books, although fiction was not his first choice. I meant only to get a few things, but of course, walked out with an armload.

Later today I will find, and devour, a piece of chocolate, because Dad was always urging me to treat myself, and I figured today would be a good day to do so.
I miss him so much. I love you, Dad.

I love that picture of you and your Dad together. You have that look on your face that every baby seems to get when they get distracted by something shiny
And yes, have some chocolate today. It’s good for the soul.

Wendy expressed my thoughts exactly, that picture is beautiful, and the boy face in the second is rather perfect, isn’t it? As I think about magic cookie bars for breakfast, chocolate is definietly good for the soul and sometimes needed for breakfast.
