Working! Crazy! Working!

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

So I have essentially two freelance jobs, plus being a mom and all that.

And if you add in the occasionally not-feeling-chipper child who wakes up in the middle of the night, you have an even more sleep-deprived me. The cool thing is that I am not all depressed and grouchy (well, the latter I am sometimes) because I am happily productive. The bad thing is that, well, I am tired all the time.

But the holidays loom, and I am working towards getting some time off, so yay on that score.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Silent Treatment

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

I made a vow: I won’t post here until I schedule a mammogram. I’m being nagged over at Twitter (where I’m @meganf), and I am good with being double-nagged over here.

There’s no concern, just a routine exam, but it’s been too long since I had one.

Things! That Are Different!*

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

So Thanksgiving was fun, hope yours was too, I got to sleep and do some out-by-ourselves time with my husband, which is a rarity.

And then we attended his 25th High School Reunion, where some chucklehead just HAD to play Styx’s “Mr. Roboto.” That was probably the worst part, even worse than High School Slutty Girl morphing into Grown-Up Mom Drunk Lady.

But anyhoo. So I am likely to be even more busy, taking on another part-time job, but that might, quixotically, encourage me to post more here for some imaginary free time. I will have a subway commute, which means more reading time. Yay?

Meanwhile, the Champion Agent is off hawking me and my talent to a variety of publishers, which is nifty, and the holidays are looming, which is okay. We’ve got a wedding to attend in Minnesota in December, I’ve never been there in the winter, and am looking forward to it in a perverse howmuchcoldcanIstand kind of way. Plus that branch of the family rocks hard.

In other words, life is the same, and I am busy.

Pending

Today is the big doctor visit day.

I DO feel better, but am now having some sort of odd allergic reaction; don’t ask.

And I am contemplating adding another thing to the Full Plate, so life may get more hectic soon. Even thinking about it makes me break out in hives (see above).

So, yeah. Same as usual.

And will show you my latest obsession (if it works):

Quiet Time

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

I’m not blogging until I feel better, because otherwise it would be all “I’m so tired, I feel so lousy, I wish this would stop, my laundry doesn’t stop, my brain hurts” blah blah blah.

So look for me sometime early 2011.

Way Better!

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

Finally! I am feeling way, way better, in fact good enough to do all the work I ignored while ill, and also ignore here, since it felt too much like time-suckery.

Ah, but now I am feeling normal enough to return here and chat about myself. Whilst yawning.

So–to recap:

–still tired
–doing well on working out. Yay!
–writing as much as possible.
–seeing friends, including having dinner with one who was in town from South Carolina, which was great. I had sole with harissa and coriander yogurt. And tiramisu!
–seeing the Greco-Sicilian Doctor on her birthday and getting not one, but two pairs of cute shoes at DSW!
–uh . . .

and, to my ultimate shame, walking outside wearing a brown-patterned dress, brown tights and black shoes. Ugh! It was only to retrieve the garbage cans, but still–ginormous fashion don’t.

Oh! And we also saw Akira Kurosawa’s The Seven Samurai over the weekend. What an amazing film, as though you all didn’t know that already. I was engrossed for all 3+ hours of it. Plus saw The Young Victoria, and once again, Rupert Friend’s excellent acting skills astonish me. ‘Cause, you know, he’s really pretty, and really pretty guys aren’t normally such good actors because they don’t have to be. But he is.

Although I’d like to know what Rupert is doing wearing my shoes.

(And, it should be noted, that although I admire his prettiness, he is not tagged as an ‘Object of Lust (non-Clive edition) as many of my eye candy posts are).

Crossing Off The List

Monday, July 26th, 2010

So the Son is off having Adventures, leaving his sad, lonely parents back in Brooklyn. Which means that his sad, lonely parents don’t have the care and responsibility for the Son.

Party time!

We’ve been having Date Night every night since he left, except for one night when we saw our respective friends. We’ve gone to the same chi-chi tequila bar TWICE, had wine and cheese while watching Mad Men, went on a bike ride TOGETHER, went to the movies (!) and saw Inception, slept late, took naps and went shopping.

A good, if exhausting, time has been had by us.

And tomorrow I head to Florida for the Romance Writers Of America’s annual conference, and will be presenting a workshop with Liz Maverick on social networking. See? Like this here? I am networking, socially.

Will post when I can, but my life hasn’t been worth me saying anything about anyway, so likely will not be posting a lot.

Update

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

This week, the NYC School System is harshing my mellow with a half day, a field day picnic (which I’ll be in attendance at) and a full day off, with an orientation at the Son’s new school.

Oy! When will I have time for complaining, much less work and writing and such?

So I’ll likely be absent from here a lot. I’ve got Work To Do, yes, in an Average White Band way.

Summation

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Last week, as many of you know, I headed to Portland, OR, to see the Picky Vegetarian. We had a blast, eating at her favorite restaurants, driving to a quirky museum in Washington, stopping at wineries, drinking coffee, and making fun of ourselves and each other.

I got home Friday morning, slept, and then immediately headed to New Jersey for Easter. As most of you know, I am not religious, but I do recognize the importance of respecting others’ traditions, so I was happy to trek down there for crabcakes and ham.

Back in Brooklyn only to realize that the Spawn’s school doesn’t actually resume until Wednesday. Oops. There went those ’start writing again on Monday’ plans. But I did get the repair from Toyota, took my son to Sunset Park to the Asian supermarkets and bought green beans for fifty cents a pound. Score!

He goes back tomorrow. Whew.

Meanwhile, I am feeling sort of energized–sort of–and mildly optimistic about finishing this book by my own deadline.

Yes, close-to-dullest-post ever. But at least there is forward motion.

AND I got the international version of this from Netflix:

Back in a Bit

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

I’ve got an ennui-ish kind of illness, a real one, not just Frampton Fatigue.

So today I took TWO naps and moped around. I hope to feel better tomorrow.
