Best Birthday Gift–EVER!
Monday, August 24th, 2009Yes, I am the Queen of Hyperbole, why do you ask?
When I got home Saturday, the (Thoughtful) Spouse presented me with three packages: One contained a yoga DVD I had rented multiple times from the library, one had Richard Armitage (swoon!) reading Georgette Heyer’s Sylvester, and one was a bike helmet. Which meant on Sunday we went and got this:

Brooklyn-bound
Saturday, August 22nd, 2009Today the Ten Year-Old and I return to Brooklyn. We’re both looking forward to seeing the Spouse/Father, not to mention the own bed and the Wii games (guess who’s who?).
We had a great time here, it’s so nice when your family is loving and cool like this one. Aw, Megan gets all gushy and somewhat boring!
Anyway, back to Real Life next week.
Post-Birthday
Thursday, August 20th, 2009Yesterday was lovely. I got up, worked on freelance, then headed back upstairs to take a nap. WIN1
Then I worked on my own writing, and finished this short Regency-set story I’ve been doing. WIN2
Then, McVane came up with the perfect anagram for my name: Tramp, Fang On Me. WIN3
The Picky Vegetarian, who’s been working like a dog WITH dogs (and cats) called, which was nice, but cell reception stinks so all I could hear was “Happy Birthday.” But still, it was nice. WIN3.1
After, I read more of The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks, which the Faux Critique Partner recommended. WIN4
[Many, many happy birthday wishes from Twitter and Facebook, plus a special post from my P-I-C] WIN4.1

Then, STEAK! And family, and wine, and laughter. WIN5
A gift of tube mascara and Godiva chocolate. WIN6

After that? The Nocturnal Aunt and I watched North And South, and she adored it. WIN7

A really, really good day.
It’s All About ME (today, at least)
Wednesday, August 19th, 2009So normally this spot is a place for self-deprecation, not self-aggrandizement. But today that is all changed, because–
TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY!
I am 45, and pretty okay with that. A few weeks ago, we had a Dance Party Fiesta to celebrate the birthday, and my nearest and dearest came over to the house and celebrated. Here’s a picture of me with the Super-Smart Lawyer (the female one) and frequent commenter Hatrack (the male one).

The party was fabulous, with loads of dancing fun. The funniest part–which the Super-Smart Lawyer’s Awesome BF noticed, and made due fun of–was that every time a new song came on, I gushed, “Ooh! I love this song!” Well, duh, Megan, you assembled the entire playlist, and of course you love all the songs.
I am still in Minnesota, so the Thoughtful Spouse texted me last night, and then called me first thing to wish me a HB. He sent a card, too, which I got yesterday. Tonight the Minnesota relatives are bowing to my demands and we’re having steak for dinner. Yum! And mushrooms in wine sauce, double yum!
Okay. Tomorrow, back to insecurity and angst. Today, we’re having birthday cake.
Why Go On?
Wednesday, August 5th, 2009No, the post title is not nearly as dramatic as it might seem at first blush. Instead, I was pondering a subject that came up on Twitter, where I’ve been conversing–probably overly much–with other romance readers and authors.
The topic was authors who don’t update their sites, so you have no idea what they’re up to. Probably because, unlike me, they’re busy with deadlines. Now this is not a ‘woe is me’ post about my lack of contracts; rather it’s kind of an affirmation about the fun of blogging, and sharing some of my life and observations to the world, rather than having them stay inside my head.
I make no apologies for not being currently published. I am working on it, am trying to continue to goose my own motivation to write, and believe–eventually–that it will happen again. Because if I didn’t believe that, this would be its own hellish Sisyphean task. And even when I get a contract (notice the when, not the if–shows some seldom-seen optimism, huh?), I will update this spot, ’cause it’s so much fun just to pop in and try to make someone laugh, or share something I saw or thought about. It’s also great for my friends, who get to see how I’m doing so they can avoid calling or rush to the phone, depending.
Which is a very long way of saying thanks for stopping by.
Yes, He Is My Son, Why Do You Ask?
Monday, March 30th, 2009Overkill
Tuesday, March 17th, 2009First, some orders of business:
My migraine went away yesterday evening–only to be followed by some back spasms. Fun! See, if I don’t exercise regularly, the back spasms happen. Since the migraine prohibited the exercising, the spasms felt welcome. But today I exercised and stretched, and the spasms have abated somewhat.
Next, All is Right in the World since Liz Maverick, aka the Alpha Sparkle Dog, is back in New York State. She promises to mock me into editing. I hope to edit soon.
And last–this weekend, the Son, the MIL and I went to the Son’s school’s Winter Carnival. They had Guitar Hero set up for the fourth and fifth graders, and of course the Son wanted to participate.
He took vocals, and chose one of his favorite songs, sung by this guy:

It was “Overkill” by Motorhead. After several false starts, my guy got to sing, and he did an awesome job, getting Lemmy’s raspy, snarling vocals just right.
When someone said what a good job he’d done, he replied, “It’s only something I’ve listened to every night for years.”
My little rocker. Heh.
Memories
Monday, February 2nd, 2009So I have been steadily working my way through the Projects (definitely a capital “P”) in the house, and did a whole bunch of going through photo books, frames, etc. so I could sort out what we might want to hang up.
And I found this, from our wedding day 13 and a half years ago:
I’m uneasily certain that I don’t look as good now as I did there, but then again, that was a special day, so I pulled out most off, if not all, of the stops. Scott–aka The Spouse–cut his hair not too long after our wedding, but I didn’t want him to cut it before, because I didn’t want to marry someone I didn’t recognize.
Anyway. I might be posting some more pix (me in college? Purple hair? Zippers? Woo-hoo!) in upcoming weeks. Be forewarned.
No, really, it’s me.
Monday, December 1st, 2008Is woe you?
No, it’s me. Woe is me.
Not for any reason in particular, just feeling the ebb part of the ebb and flow of life. So I’m gonna chill out today and not beleaguer my kind readers with my various Ts and Ts (Trials and Tribulations).
Hope everyone had a great holiday, and please take a moment to remember that today is World AIDs Day, and people around the globe are still dying from this terrible disease (my uncle died over twenty years ago from it, back when it was the “Gay Man’s Disease.”)
