Yeah, Well…

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

Yes, it is 11 days into the New Year, but that’s okay. Because look what I can say!

–the revisions were absolutely and completely accepted for the book that will be titled Vanity Fare by me under the pseudonym Megan Caldwell.

–I’m working with a chef to create recipes to be included with the book. So nobody will have to cook up the lame stuff I could possibly create!

–I am loving my Kindle. I completely did a 180 (and doesn’t it crack you up when people say 360, because that just means no change at all?), and am now e-reading all of the time. The library has a big part of that–they lend out e-books now, which means I don’t have to go physically pick it up. And yes, I donate money to both of my libraries (Brooklyn Public Library and New York Public Library) each year for the joy I get out of their services.

–I got to go to Le Bernardin, the New York restaurant owned by Eric Ripert, the foxiest silver fox I know. Plus that French accent! I wore a bright red jacket, and we sat in the middle of the room, and that was cool, since mostly everyone else was wearing black. I felt like I was starring in a movie! The food was amazing. Like lick-the-plate amazing. Dream of it amazing.

–Work is great. I love my job. I am also tired a lot of the time, so I’ve developed a bad habit of napping after work. I have to break that habit, it just means I don’t get everything done I need to. On the other hand–napping!

I will be attending TWO writers’ conferences in April–the first in New England, with the Delightful Phone Friend Myretta, and the next the Romantic Times Conference, where I’ll see Amanda McCabe and other writer friends, and get to meet Robin, who’s my Reading Twin.

Fun While The Guy is Away

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

So the Has A Hard Time Relaxing Spouse and I have been doing many fun things while our son is away; last night, we had dinner at the other end of the neighborhood, and strolled the long way home.

Today, we got our bikes out and took advantage of the New York Summer Streets program, where they shut down big parts of Manhattan for bikes and runners and such. We did 23 miles, and I finally got to go over the Brooklyn Bridge. I’d never done that before!

I’ve been revising my manuscript, that should go to a brand new beta reader at the end of next week, and then back to the Fabulous Agent. Plus been brainstorming another project, yay, and working many hours at HeroesandHeartbreakers.

So there you go. That’s me. I STILL have not seen Cowboys and Aliens, feh. Soon, hopefully.

My First Love: Barbara Cartland

Saturday, June 25th, 2011

I’ve talked about this a lot all over the place, but today, HeroesandHeartbreakers has a post near and dear to my heart–Barbara Cartland: Queen of Romance or Derivative Moralist, and it reminds me, again, how much I loved those early Bantam books.

I can’t even begin to count how many times I read them. And I loved the covers, which I was able to find online–woot!

Eyes, Spring, Etc.

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

Seriously, Megan? This is the best you can do?

Sadly, yes.

My eyeglass problem is, I think, solved, so I can see again. Yay! (A recent study, btw, found one out of six women would rather be blind than obese. Morons).

And while I haven’t written yet this week, I think I will find time to do so soon.

And work is still fun! I am writing a whole bunch of posts, and managing to fit in the odd Clive Owen reference and such when I can. Sneaky, right?

I have not yet seen Thor, but that treat is in the offing. Can’t wait!

One of these years, I’ll find time to do everything I want to, and still get enough sleep. And if wishes were horses then beggars would ride (which I understand, in theory, but if wishes were horses we’d all be riding, I think. Wishing is not restricted to poor people, is it? No. It is not.)

Bringing The Fun On Over

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

So one of my daily duties at HeroesandHeartbreakers is to do the Morning Coffee feature, wherein I find something that’s like a tiny tidbit of fun to share with the site’s readers.

And I’ve also been doing recaps of the somewhat execrable Upstairs, Downstairs, the occasional tribute to smokin’ hot actor types and whatnot (don’t ask me what whatnot is; it’s just whatnot!).

So, meanwhile, if you miss my charm (ha!), head on over there and you can filter my posts with my name, like so. See?

I am still working, still busy, still missing being my own fun self over here. Maybe when the days get longer, I’ll have more energy? Please?

And We’re Back!

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

In the past two weeks I’ve:

worked a lot
not slept so much
went to LA
did Conference-y things there
did NOT write
am STILL recovering (have I mentioned I’m an introvert? And there were a mooseload of people there?)
read a whole lot
considered–yes, actually considered–a re-read, since the Delightful Phone Friend has almost persuaded me. Then that opens up the whole other topic of WHAT to re-read. Right now it’s A Notorious Rake by Mary Balogh.
gotten increasingly excited for Game of Thrones on HBO.
Will likely post here again, when I can.
Now off to do something reasonable, like put laundry away (let me know when my work is done, okay? Thanks.)

Still Busy.

Monday, March 28th, 2011

You know, I hate blogs like this one has become: A person who does the same thing all the time and has no time to discuss anything even mildly interesting. Blame it on the job, or what-have-you, but all I can say is, yeah, well here I am, in Self-Loathing Blog Form.

But wait! I’m here now! The Spouse is out at a Knicks game, the Spawn is (hopefully) asleep, and I’m catching up on some work. Let’s see:

Champion Agent is out with all sorts of projects. Yay!
–Work is great, although hella busy, and I’ll now be working FIVE days a week.
–I am heading to a conference next week, which means I have to work in advance. I mean, I love myself a good deadline, but this is just plain silly.
–Oh, and reading up a storm. Loving my commute.

And leggings should never, ever be worn as pants. Just no. But you knew that, right?

Nothing new, right? Right.

Move It!

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

This is my latest aural obsession.

In other news, I am still working a lot, and am gradually figuring out how to do a variety of things.

And, hey, I actually managed to work out today! First time in a long time–and I did not start weeping at the gym. Yay!

I haven’t been posting here as often because there just isn’t much to report–I wrote last week, one day, but still haven’t cleaned my baseboards. Le sigh. They just might be the bane of my existence.

Oh, so some links; last week, I blogged (as usual) at the Riskies on Friday, where I drop a little Megan science; then I’ve been doing little bits at HeroesandHeartbreakers, such as nail polish fiesta, and a few other Morning Coffee items.

So–to recap; can’t wait for spring; too busy to write consistently, but still working on story in head; waiting for delicious news from Agent; am still fond of dark-haired actors with accents.

Lame!

Friday, February 18th, 2011

You know, it is so incredibly lame I haven’t found the time, space and energy to post here. But I haven’t.

New Work is kicking my butt, but it should settle down as early as next week–I worked both Saturday and Sunday of last week, and am still exhausted. I am juggling New Work, Old Work and Mom-and-Wife Work, so I haven’t had much time to do anything else. Including, yay, being bored or feeling useless.

I’m reading A TON, which is great. The subway ride is a blessing.

I plan to start writing my own fiction again next week–I had a thought for a future scene in the Urban Fantasy, and I believe there is a need for a snarky UF romance, and I think I’ve got that in spades. Now if I can only finish the book . . .

Meanwhile, I’ve got ideas clamoring for attention in my head, which is nifty, too.

But other than the usual–anxiety, sleep deprivation, obsession with dark, angsty heroes, never getting enough coffee, being happy at how fantastic my son is, laundry, Indian food and hoop earrings–I’ve got nothing. Not a thing.

I am, to my own dismay, rather boring right now. Rats.

Don’t Go Breakin’ My Heart

Monday, February 14th, 2011

I’ve been working on this, and now it’s ready for its debut!

There’s more work to be done, of course, but we’re all pretty proud of it (the snarky captions under some of the pix are mine, btw).
