Not Such A Success*

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

*by which I mean at I failed at not taking a nap. But I had some extenuating circumstances:

–Blood sugar issues (I get low blood sugar, it seems, which makes me shaky and sweaty and I need to eat something RIGHT AWAY and it leaves me spent.)

–headache from yesterday still on today.

–general grouchiness from chain falling off derailleur during course of bike ride.

–stuff I won’t mention. Not bad, just too overshare-y.

–and the faceplant nap wasn’t as long as yesterday. So–room for improvement?

Okay. So tomorrow there is NO TIME FOR NAPPING. Wish me luck. Again.

On the other hand, there’s this. Yay for shallow comfort!

Adjusting

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

So now we get up at 6:00am, and get the Guy onto the school bus at 6:50am. Then I plan on heading to the gym (as I did yesterday) or go running in the park (as I did today). What I do not plan on doing is erratically weaving to my bed to take an Emergency Nap.

But, guess what happened this morning?

Seems like I have to tweak my sleep schedule so I’m not passed out for a bit during the day. We have been getting to bed earlier, but I gather my body is rebelling. Urgh.

So tomorrow my goal is simple: Not to Nap. Seems easy, right? Ha! Will likely be one of the hardest things in my life to do.

(In other news, the Guy is adjusting to school as well as we could hope. Thank goodness!)

Back

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Oh my goodness, but it’s been a long time. I hadn’t intended not to update here, but the Son and I were in Minnesota for our annual two-week sojourn, and life was pretty dull:

I’d get up and get the boys off to sailing school (my son and his cousin, who loves Nutella like I love Richard Armitage).

Then I’d do freelance work.

Then a nap.

Then some writing and puttering.

Then boys would come home.

Reading, dinner, etc.

Not many hijinks.

I did get a lot of writing done, which was awesome, and realized, not so awesome, that I am in serious sleep debt if I can nap and sleep as much as I did in the past two weeks. Also, I am as big as I’ve been in awhile, but I’ve also been running, which is good. And actually fun!

Anyway. Lots of catching up today, and hopefully more Brooklyn-style hijinks to ensue later this week.

Post-Birthday

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Yesterday was lovely. I got up, worked on freelance, then headed back upstairs to take a nap. WIN1

Then I worked on my own writing, and finished this short Regency-set story I’ve been doing. WIN2

Then, McVane came up with the perfect anagram for my name: Tramp, Fang On Me. WIN3

The Picky Vegetarian, who’s been working like a dog WITH dogs (and cats) called, which was nice, but cell reception stinks so all I could hear was “Happy Birthday.” But still, it was nice. WIN3.1

After, I read more of The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks, which the Faux Critique Partner recommended. WIN4

[Many, many happy birthday wishes from Twitter and Facebook, plus a special post from my P-I-C] WIN4.1

Then, STEAK! And family, and wine, and laughter. WIN5

A gift of tube mascara and Godiva chocolate. WIN6

After that? The Nocturnal Aunt and I watched North And South, and she adored it. WIN7

A really, really good day.

Wiped Out.

You ever get so little sleep that your eyelid keeps twitching? Yeah, that’s me. I spent a glorious weekend sleeping in, then last night the Freelancing Spouse was up late working, and the Son had many issues sleeping, so when we went to bed at 2am, the Son joined us. In our double bed. With three people: Me, my 6′1″ Spouse and the Not Short For His Age Son.

I slept on the edge of the bed for my five hours.

I hate Twitchy Eyelid.

BUT the weekend was awesome, but it was nice to see the Frampton Boys home again, and I can maybe grab a snooze later on today.

Mother’s Day Post-Nappem

hopfen_weisse_glass.jpg

I got my Mother’s Day nap, yay, and a hanger steak and key lime pie and this beer, a collaboration between Brooklyn Brewery and Schneider-Weisse (weiss beer is my favorite). I haven’t drunk it yet, it’s waiting for me. Like a golden liquid beckoning in the vista.

I got the first of some revision feedback today, so I can dive into Road to Passion and get working.

I called my mom on Friday, she STILL hasn’t called me back, so I didn’t bother trying on Sunday–I think that makes me a bad daughter, for sure, but honestly? A mother who doesn’t call her daughter back? Close to Mother’s Day, when her daughter is a mother? Pardon me for being pettish.

This weekend I wore the Goal Diet Jeans, the ones that I promised I wouldn’t wear until I could wear them comfortably. And now I can! I’ve lost about ten pounds, and want to go down a little bit more, so those jeans are loose and stuff. I guess moving, stress, lack of sleep, stress, panic, etc. does have its benefits.

Nice Words, Bad Dial-Up

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

The Son, the MIL and I are at the Jersey Shore, where dial-up is King. So  I haven’t been able to as blithely jump around the internet, because the freelance duties require actual work (which is also blithely jumping, but this time WITH A PURPOSE).

So thanks to everyone for their kind birthday wishes, and their kind words about my teeth (which really do scare small children, but that’s okay). And the agent hunt continues, words on that when it is further along, and I am reading Barbara Hambly (SandyL is smiling), and the MIL, well, I’m a nice woman.

So let’s see. It’s been raining for almost three days here, which is a drag, but I am happy, ’cause I’ve been getting enough sleep and I don’t have to do dishes. It doesn’t take much.

More later–

Megan

Early To Rise, Early To Nap

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

1966_pucci.jpgThis morning, for some inexplicable reason (explic it if you can!), I woke up at 5:15am. Wide awake. So I got up, made coffee, did my freelance work, woke the son, got him off to sailing school, went to yoga (fyi: I am now a reluctant yoga convert. My back was spasming, and after class, it wasn’t. Rats, more things to do to take care of my health), did cardio while listening to Daft Punk (they’re German, TriLingual Guy!) went to the library, went to the mall, took the bus back, had lunch, and decided to nap. It was 12:45. Now I am totally groggy, but I have an hour and a half to recover before the son returns.

Tomorrow is the Fourth of July, which means all the relatives are off from their respective jobs. Yay! And the Even More Hard-Working Spouse is coming out, so double yay!

(And yesterday I found a bookstore and bought a bee-yoo-ti-full trade PB of Lee Child, plus a Loretta Chase reissue I may or may not have and the first Horatio Hornblower. My cousin bought Vanity Fair, A Tale of Two Cities, The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, and some ‘Be Great!’ self-h. book. I also bought some tacky chartreuse plastic earrings. Yay me. Oh, and I got to horrify my Very Stylish Aunt by coming home with one of the loudest floral skirts EVER*. And a black and white maxi dress in polyester. I will be wearing both, no worries. I am shy, but not in my clothing.)

exhausted.jpgThis was me today: Exhausted.

I napped more times than I did not, and I’m still wiped out. I hope to be more chipper (chippier?) tomorrow.

I am not going to RWA’s National Conference this year (no book out, no money, no desire to see Dallas ever again), but I just registered for the New Jersey Conference and will be sharing a room with The Lady Novelist.

So by then something had better be happening with my books or I will have wasted money. And I hate wasting money (although, who likes it? But I get aggrieved when I realize there’s half a bunch of cilantro I have to throw out, or that my son lost another pair of $4 sunglasses. Cheap, some call it. Including me, actually).

It Was A Good Day

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

Someone had two naps today.

And then someone bought a brand-new can opener, the kind that doesn’t leave any jagged edges and has a lifetime guarantee!!

And then? Then I went to Pearl River Mart because I was in dire need of hoisin sauce and light soy sauce (I have plenty of dark, thanks). That store is the coolest. I couldn’t resist stocking up on rice noodles, either (I cook a lot of Chinese food, this is my second bottle of hoisin sauce this year).

But the coup de grace was heading to Daffy’s, where I bought a mooseload of much-needed socks.

Bliss is small errands done well.

And tonight, some editing and a lot of tea.
