Monday, Blecch.

Monday, October 27th, 2008

I had a lovely weekend at the New Jersey Romance Writers’ Conference, but I feel awful now–tired, headachey, grouchy, etc.

So I am sparing you my grumps and promise to post later this week, when I am in a better mood (or at least funnier about it).

Blank.

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

I just spent a minute, a record for me in blogging time, staring at my desk wondering what to write here today. Which kinda describes how I am feeling: Blank, dull, dim-witted and–some fourth word that escapes me now.

But since I don’t want to foul mood of yesterday’s post to hang around here like a bad penny I wanted to say something.

“Something.”

Ha!

I hope to return to my normal opinionated self tomorrow.

Meanwhile, have a great Wednesday.

You KNOW You’re Procrastinating When . . .

You find yourself reading Project Runway blogs, and you are so totally on the fence about this season.

There aren’t any designers I like, and plenty I absolutely despise (Stella! STELLA!).

Who’s The Dullest In The Land?

Today I just couldn’t stand myself any longer, and I opened up The Dreaded Synopsis. Yup, still sucky. I tweaked, which mostly meant deleting whole chunks of text, and tried to make it appear as if it made sense.

Who knows if it does? Well, actually, I sent it to a couple of folks who might be telling me soon.

In other news, I went to Target yesterday and bought books (my thanks to Goedi, who mentioned that Minnesota does indeed have bookstores. No thanks for his sarcastic tone). I also bought a new pair of shorts, berry-colored madras, which made my cousin say I always dressed “interestingly.” She did mean it as a compliment, but I didn’t know it was that different. I am not conscious of trying to be different, I used to really dress outrageously, and I thought I was more normal now. It’s kinda cool I’m still not normal.

The Son is at sailing school today, and now that the Synopsis is done finished complete something, I can get back to creative writing. Friday is the Son’s birthday, and we will probably be going to the opening day of Hellboy II to celebrate. I not-so-secretly love that he is into that kind of dark, fantastic stuff.

In other words, and to make a long story short, and to cut to the chase, and other banal time cliches, I am really boring right now. It’s weird not to be insanely stressed.

Okay. More later. Aren’t you thrilled?

Megan

PS: No, the pic has nothing to do with anything. But it’s less boring than the text, no?

Brain Fuzz

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

I’ve opened up the posting page at least three times today, but everything I’ve got to say seems quite dull. So I will just say it’s a blah day here in Brooklyn, I’ve got to switch my freelance work with my writing so there’s no chance of the Eight Year-Old seeing the fiction (he is a very fast reader–just like Mom), and 3:10 To Yuma was a whole lot of fun.  And this after drinking an entire pot of coffee. Can you imagine just how dull I am right now? Gah. I hope to have more of the joie de vivre tomorrow.

Obligatory ‘Too Busy to Post’ Post

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Yeah, so lame. I really hate it when bloggers do this kind of post, as if to show they’re “EVER SO MUCH BUSIER THAN YOU, you PEON, and WHY aren’t you out doing fabulous, exciting things like I am?”

Because exciting things include:

drinking green tea
exercising
editing
doing bills
cleaning
packing
planning to move
working freelance job
taking care of eight year-old
taking care of forty year-old
worrying
cooking
not eating
cleaning some more
worrying a whole bunch
having a headache

So, sorry for being lame. I just can’t get my head out of the worrying and stress and all to point out that it’s beyond inane to write an online review of a stove by saying, “Our old stove broke, so we had to get a new one.” And that helps me decide which stove to buy how? NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE MINUTIAE OF YOUR LIFE. Just like no-one cares about mine. So I will be silent until I slog through it all.

Bo-ring

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

Me. I went over 70K in Road To Passion, the contractor called with some more hiccups, I have a headache (too much MIL), I ate WAY too much starch today (thanks, you-know-who), and I saw some books I wish I could buy.

Yawn. So what else is new?

I should be done with RTP within ten days, if all goes well; then on to more agent querying. Go me!

Maybe that is sorta exciting. But if anyone gives me “cyber champagne,” (quotes included), I will have to punch them in the face. Not their cyber face, their REAL face.

Nice Words, Bad Dial-Up

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

The Son, the MIL and I are at the Jersey Shore, where dial-up is King. So  I haven’t been able to as blithely jump around the internet, because the freelance duties require actual work (which is also blithely jumping, but this time WITH A PURPOSE).

So thanks to everyone for their kind birthday wishes, and their kind words about my teeth (which really do scare small children, but that’s okay). And the agent hunt continues, words on that when it is further along, and I am reading Barbara Hambly (SandyL is smiling), and the MIL, well, I’m a nice woman.

So let’s see. It’s been raining for almost three days here, which is a drag, but I am happy, ’cause I’ve been getting enough sleep and I don’t have to do dishes. It doesn’t take much.

Editing. Sweating. More Editing.

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Have you heard? It’s really FREAKING HOT. Yeah, I know. Again with the weather.

The AC is on, sort of, and I am attempting to edit a manuscript that needs less of my meandering prose and more of my plot. It’s going okay, since this is probably the third time I’ve hacked at this particular work.

The Spouse and I saw the Bourne Ultimatum, which was fun, and one of us (sshhh!) got to sleep naked, ’cause there was no Eight-Year Old wandering around. I love getting time off once in awhile. Tonight we will be dining out for the same reason (not nude, though; I have my standards).

Hm. It’s hot. Did I say that already?

More later–

Tired, Hungry, Well-Read

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

Paul Poiret New research finds that not getting enough sleep increases the hormones that make you feel hungry, whereas getting adequate sleep decreases those hormones–so sleeping more can actually help you lose weight! I knew there was a reason I was so hungry and tired (and cold. A lot of times I’m cold, too. It’s the asthma medicine, makes my blood thinner. Honestly, if this was any other time, I’d have been left on a hill to die. My husband calls me a miracle of modern medicine.)

Loretta Chase and Anne Stuart books arrived yesterday. I am more than halfway through Barbara Hambly’s Sold Down the River, and there are at least half a dozen words I don’t know. Do I stop and look them up? Of course not! I just shrug and keep reading.

I finished watching Jane Eyre with Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens. I really liked this version, I thought both leads were fantastic. Of course, Mr. Rochester was too handsome, but at least he wasn’t Dalton-gorgeous (I’ve never been able to bring myself to watch William Hurt. Not Rochester at all, is he? If you’ve seen it and disagree, lemme know). I love the book Jane Eyre, I might have to read it again, which I haven’t done in well over twenty years. That Jane is such an amazing character.

Anyway. I gotta go vacuum, and probably stub my toe at some point, since I cannot wear shoes in the house.
