Who’s The Dullest In The Land?

Today I just couldn’t stand myself any longer, and I opened up The Dreaded Synopsis. Yup, still sucky. I tweaked, which mostly meant deleting whole chunks of text, and tried to make it appear as if it made sense.

Who knows if it does? Well, actually, I sent it to a couple of folks who might be telling me soon.

In other news, I went to Target yesterday and bought books (my thanks to Goedi, who mentioned that Minnesota does indeed have bookstores. No thanks for his sarcastic tone). I also bought a new pair of shorts, berry-colored madras, which made my cousin say I always dressed “interestingly.” She did mean it as a compliment, but I didn’t know it was that different. I am not conscious of trying to be different, I used to really dress outrageously, and I thought I was more normal now. It’s kinda cool I’m still not normal.

The Son is at sailing school today, and now that the Synopsis is done finished complete something, I can get back to creative writing. Friday is the Son’s birthday, and we will probably be going to the opening day of Hellboy II to celebrate. I not-so-secretly love that he is into that kind of dark, fantastic stuff.

In other words, and to make a long story short, and to cut to the chase, and other banal time cliches, I am really boring right now. It’s weird not to be insanely stressed.

Okay. More later. Aren’t you thrilled?

Megan

PS: No, the pic has nothing to do with anything. But it’s less boring than the text, no?

Fortunate Son

Yes, I am referencing Creedence Clearwater Revival in the title of this post. Sue me, my dad played them a lot when I was growing up.

But I’m back to writing some of the super-sexy Regency, and so had to find a good pic of my hero:djimon1.jpg

Mm. Fun.
And I did the Carolyn Jewel thing, and notebooked the plot for this, and for my other longer Regency-set historical. Kinda cool!

I am bound and determined not to just sit around and gripe about not having time to write. I am going to make time.

I Am A Dork

Visit Marianne Mancusi and Liz Maverick to see me in pure idiocy. And to see very nice pix of MM, LM, EKM and Leanna, whose birthday we were celebrating.

I don’t feel so bad anymore, though, ’cause of your nice comments, and the ebbing of time (Cindy, the story about your friend asking for more is just mind-boggling. WTF? I don’t think I’ve ever been so rude).

I sent my agent the partial of Road to Desire/On Bold Adventure on Sunday; we’ll see what she says. It’s much more traditional romance-y than That Subtle Knot/Road to Passion, but it’s still edgy.

I started reading Lover Enshrined yesterday. Already love it, already have rolled my eyes in several places. Isn’t that what a guilty pleasure is all about?

Got to KNOW know them.

One thing that, I wouldn’t say irks, ’cause it doesn’t really bother him, but strikes my husband is how women use the same word twice in a row for emphasis. As in:

“It’s a little chilly, you might need a sweater.”

“A sweater sweater? Or just a sweatshirt?”

Or . . . “I could really use a drink.” (said often in my house).

“A drink drink, or just a drink?”

Which, in my writing life, means I have to know know my characters before I start writing–my three first readers all commented my hero was inconsistent, and I realized it’s because I didn’t have his backstory nailed. Now I do. So I am going to revise my chapters, make Mr. Foxy* consistent, and be done within a week. Just in time for school to be out. Oh joy.

And I think I have a title for this one: On Bold Adventure. From Milton, you know**.

Yeah, yeah, late posting over there.

Writing is going awesome, synopsis not so much.

Fresh Hell*

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

I started writing Road To Desire yesterday–came up with the first chapter, 1825 words!

And, in a stunning tour de force, the hero is not based on Clive, but on Sean:

And I found a pic of my visual hero and heroine (Rachel Weisz) together (granted, Sean’s a little weathered here, but I thought it was cool they were together):

By the end of this week, I will have turned in my revised ms. to my agent.
By the end of this week, I will have begun writing the next book, Road to Desire.
AND by the end of this week I will have replaced the gnarly worn-off blue nail polish on my toes with something much nicer, for summer, you know.

Waiting Game

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

The Shiny New Agent is sending a revision letter my way, which means my OCD refuses to let me start writing Road To Desire until Road To Passion has a delightfully chic fork stuck in it.

Now that I have the space in my office (!), however, I think I’m gonna do one of those collage-y things with pix of hero and heroine and baddie from RTD so I’m all set to go when RTP is done. Updates on if that works for me, or if it’s just a timesuck, later on.

Meanwhile, Happy Mom’s Day!

So despite Friday’s Riskies post, I didn’t actually start writing Road To Desire–I did start reading a friend’s book, which I am loving (for feedback, not just ’cause I love to read), and did a whole bunch more HouseWork, to which Amanda can attest.

And I figured out what my heroine looks like. And the first line, and the first scene. So I will start actually writing when I have finished said friend’s book and life is a smidge calmer, probably tomorrow.

Amanda’s visit was lovely, I think our Beau Monde workshop this summer is going to kick serious booty. Go us!

Had to travel to the nether ends of Brooklyn today. Wiped out. Over at the Riskies. Apparently unable to muster any type of pronoun.
