Eyes, Ears, Nose, Throat

April 26th, 2011

So I got new eyeglasses, new prescription, only the fitting is off, so I walked around kinda dizzy and unable to focus too well for about a week. Not such a good thing when one’s vocation is staring at a website or a book. I am back to the old pair, and they’re fixing the new ones. One hopes.

And today I was Sneezy McSneezyston, felled by some random springtime blooms or something. Awful.

But at least the Spring is coming–or came, not sure since it was close to 80 today, which is good, ’cause I was getting really tired of being cold. I hate being cold. Much more than I hate being hot (and I hate being hot, too).

I am loving Game of Thrones, and Justified, and strong Belgian-style beers; that’s about the extent of my free time these days. But I love what I do, I just also miss seeing my friends; the Super-Smart Lawyer, the Trilingual Crossword Fan, for example. I did see the Greco-Sicilian Doctor, the Picky Vegetarian and the Friend Who’s Such An Old Friend She Has No Nickname (as well as my highschool BFF, Anthony), but those were fleeting moments, filled with ‘I should be doing something else, right?’ anguish.

Boo. But Mother’s Day is coming, and The Indulgent Spouse says we can go see Thor, yay, for Mother’s Day!

Bringing The Fun On Over

April 20th, 2011

So one of my daily duties at HeroesandHeartbreakers is to do the Morning Coffee feature, wherein I find something that’s like a tiny tidbit of fun to share with the site’s readers.

And I’ve also been doing recaps of the somewhat execrable Upstairs, Downstairs, the occasional tribute to smokin’ hot actor types and whatnot (don’t ask me what whatnot is; it’s just whatnot!).

So, meanwhile, if you miss my charm (ha!), head on over there and you can filter my posts with my name, like so. See?

I am still working, still busy, still missing being my own fun self over here. Maybe when the days get longer, I’ll have more energy? Please?

Risky Friday

April 15th, 2011

Sheesh. You’d think I could juggle everything, but it’s just hard. But I did post over at the Riskies today about chemistry and such, so head over there.

Okay?

See you later!

And We’re Back!

April 12th, 2011

In the past two weeks I’ve:

worked a lot
not slept so much
went to LA
did Conference-y things there
did NOT write
am STILL recovering (have I mentioned I’m an introvert? And there were a mooseload of people there?)
read a whole lot
considered–yes, actually considered–a re-read, since the Delightful Phone Friend has almost persuaded me. Then that opens up the whole other topic of WHAT to re-read. Right now it’s A Notorious Rake by Mary Balogh.
gotten increasingly excited for Game of Thrones on HBO.
Will likely post here again, when I can.
Now off to do something reasonable, like put laundry away (let me know when my work is done, okay? Thanks.)

Thanks!

March 30th, 2011

You guys! You’re still with me. That’s so nice. I’m all gooey inside (honestly, I am–I know I employ sarcastic snark; would that be ’snarkasm?’, but in this case I’m not. I’m all touched and stuff).

The big news, besides the working all the time thing, is that I, at the tender age of 46, am getting braces. Yup. Braces.

As is my son. See, I went to the dentist, and I have some unpleasantness, and she sent me to the orthodontist, and my son also had to go, and it was determined that both of us needed braces. Further, that I needed some teeth removed–at first I thought it was four, yikes, but it turned out to be just one, and I got that taken care of yesterday. I still need some other fussiness done prior to the braces, but then it’s on.

Yikes. I am getting the invisible kind for the top teeth, I think, with the silver bits on the bottom. And, as I like silver, I guess that’ll just make me more sparkly. But it’s weird. After all this time, with that enormous tooth sticking out in front, to get braces? Is just weird. But the alternative is to risk losing some teeth, since the tooth structure is jeoparding their integrity.

So braces it is. And maybe by the time I am 50 (!) I will have straight teeth. The Nicknaming Spouse will have to stop calling me “Fang.”

(Oh, and btw? My tooth culture is so strong I already had a category called “My Bizarre Teeth.”)

Still Busy.

March 28th, 2011

You know, I hate blogs like this one has become: A person who does the same thing all the time and has no time to discuss anything even mildly interesting. Blame it on the job, or what-have-you, but all I can say is, yeah, well here I am, in Self-Loathing Blog Form.

But wait! I’m here now! The Spouse is out at a Knicks game, the Spawn is (hopefully) asleep, and I’m catching up on some work. Let’s see:

Champion Agent is out with all sorts of projects. Yay!
–Work is great, although hella busy, and I’ll now be working FIVE days a week.
–I am heading to a conference next week, which means I have to work in advance. I mean, I love myself a good deadline, but this is just plain silly.
–Oh, and reading up a storm. Loving my commute.

And leggings should never, ever be worn as pants. Just no. But you knew that, right?

Nothing new, right? Right.

Risky Language!

March 25th, 2011

No, not what you think. I’m at the Riskies today talking OED and stuff.

In other news, life and work are still kicking my ass. Finding time to read, and feed the Framptons, but that’s about it.

Hope to settle down next week–I had a big project I was working on that should be over as of Tuesday. We’ll see if life settles down at all.

Checking in.

March 17th, 2011

I stink at this ‘maintaining every thing in my life as I did before even though I now work almost full-time’ thing.
Exhibit A: This site. I love chatting about things that bother me, I like mentioning what I like, or don’t, or whatever, but I just haven’t found the time to hop onto the computer and

    not

do work.

Exhibit B: The laundry.

Exhibit C: Getting back to people on non-pressing emails. Again, stinkage is me.

Exhibit D: Not finishing lists. See? How I just did that? I am SO dada.

Not much besides work has been happening here; today is St. Patrick’s Day, so I’m rocking the green shirt, green earrings and black socks with shamrocks. That makes me happy.

Tomorrow is Friday, which now means I celebrate like the rest of the working stiffs. (which means I get to go out to dinner rather than cooking).

Oh, and FRIDAY is Friday (she said tautologically), so I’ll be at the Risky Regencies. With something to say. One hopes.

Risky Friday!

March 11th, 2011

So despite all my busyness, I do continue to post at the Riskies every Friday–I just am not always to link over from here.

But today I do.

So here.

Oh, and here:

Falsehood in Advertising

March 5th, 2011

I would like to lodge a complaint.

But since there is nowhere to which I can effectively lodge my complaint, I must be content to vent here. Lucky you.

Yesterday, the Super-Smart Lawyer and I hunkered down to watch Temptress Moon, a Chinese film that looked promising to fit our usual Film Criteria: A good movie with some nice-looking eye candy and perhaps some sexytimes.

See?

All righty then. You see at the top where it has three pull quotes from reviews? “Sensuous!,” “Ravishing!,” and “Steamy Passion!”?

The movie had none of these elements. It was a fine movie, but it was not at all what it implied, both from the picture and the pull quotes.

If the blurbs had mentioned it was “Disturbing In Its Twisted Sensuality,” or “Showing The Result of Some Very Bad Upbringing,” that would have been more true to the film itself.

In other words, the Super-Smart Lawyer and I are owed a steamy, passionate film with ravishing sensuousness.
